From the first moment JP (Jean-Pierre) Masclet became the proud owner of a Polaroid camera at the age of eight, he was hooked on photography.

Growing up in Laurel Canyon and Paris, and armed with his first 35mm Pentax, he pursued his passion for photography by teaching himself the complicated techniques of the darkroom.

While studying law at Reed College in the US, he quickly realised where his true passion and career path lay and set out for Provence to study 19th Century classical printing techniques. This was followed by a job at the renowned Zabriskie Gallery in Paris and later assisting Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, and Richard Avedon.

JP regularly shoots fashion, portraits, interiors and album covers. Clients have included Vanity Fair, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Decca Records, Island Records, Arena, i-D, Marks and Spencer, EMI, Architectural Digest (France), Hardy Amies, Next, Peter Marino Architects, Elle Decoration, Esquire, GQ, Men’s Health, Condé Nast Traveller, Elle, Madame Figaro, Vogue (British, French, US, Australian) and Glamour.

JP has also had his work exhibited at the Pompidou Centre, The Saatchi Gallery and Somerset House.

Based in London and Paris, he still never leaves home without his camera.
